Skål International is awarded by UNWTO for 30 years of Affiliate Membership

Skål International has received this recognition from Mr. Zurab Pololikashvili, UNTWO Secretary General.

Hulya Aslantas, President Skål International 2009 and current representative of Skål International to UNWTO, received the award on behalf of the organization during the award ceremony that has taken place on 16 October 2023 in the 44th UNWTO Affiliate Members Plenary Session, during the 25th session of the UNWTO General Assembly in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.

This award acknowledges Skål International's years of work within the UNWTO Affiliate Members, a working space where the private sector shares, debates and proposes initiatives to improve the competitiveness and sustainability of tourism at a global level.

Skål International has been an Affiliate Member of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) since 1984, working since then from this body to contribute to a more sustainable tourism.

With the experience of its more than 12,000 professionals, managers of the hospitality industry and its different sectors, Skål International has provided in these 30 years a multidisciplinary perspective to face the challenges and opportunities that have arisen for tourism in these decades.

Skål International's commitment to global UN initiatives is also reflected in the support of the UNWTO ST-EP (Sustainable Tourism-Eliminating Poverty) Initiative, launched in 2002, as well as the signing in 2015 of the UNWTO Global Code of Ethics for Tourism, a comprehensive set of principles designed to guide key stakeholders in tourism development.

It has also signed two Memorandums of Understanding (MoU), with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and with the UNWTO itself, in 2009 and 2014 respectively.
